diy + how to sew an envelope pillow cover in minutes

Thursday, May 29, 2014

obsessed is an understatement when it comes to pillow covers. but in my defense you can never have too many pillows (fact), they are so dang cute (fact), making pillow covers is ridiculously easy (fact), and I just can't stop (fact). our bed already has 9 pillows and i may or may not have bought - yesterday actually - some more fabric and a pillow to add to the collection.

i've warned you so only continue reading if you also want to become obsessed with sewing pillow covers and decorating every room in your house with pillows. once you start there's no going back.

how to sew an envelope pillow case

Envelope pillow covers are basic but one of my favorites because you can easily change them out with seasons or decor changes or for kicks and giggles. it use to take me forever to sew one but then i discovered this amazing tutorial from Thrifty & Chic and now it literally takes me 5 minutes to sew an envelope pillow cover. it's so simple. as in you sew four straight lines. that's it.
if you're looking for a pillow cover with a little more excitement check out this tutorial from It's Always Autumn this post is a two for one. in it she shows you how to create a pillow with pom-pom trim or zigzag ruffles. i used this tutorial to make some pom-pom trimmed pillows for our bedroom.

Fabric + my favorite places to get fabric are Hobby Lobby and Hancock Fabrics. They both have amazing prints and great sales all the time. when picking out fabric i really focus on the print and feel of the fabric. and for that reason i can't really tell you what the official types of fabric are that i use.

Pillow Inserts + these things can be so expensive at fabric stores. the cheapest place i have found to get them is Garden Ridge (soon to be called At Home) or IKEA.
